Did you know it’s possible to make your lawn greener and healthier both going into the winter and coming out of it with a simple “winterizing” application? With this process, a few simple steps can go a long way to give your lawn that boost it needs!
- Rake your leaves. This will give your lawn the room it needs to breathe.
- Cut your lawn one setting lower than normal, but no shorter than an inch long (second lowest setting) and bag the clippings and other debris. This creates an environment which will be less hospitable to snow mold and winter damage.
- Fertilize at 1 1/2 times the amount you normally fertilize during the summer months. For example, if you fertilize 1 pound per thousand square feet, then you would fertilize at 1 1/2 pounds per thousand square feet. This helps develop the root system and gives you a stronger, greener lawn both now and next spring.
- Apply herbicide to continue to kill the root systems of existing broad-leaf weeds.
Well, that’s it! Do these four things and your lawn will look GREAT next spring, lawn care will be a breeze, and you’ll be livin’ the high life!
